Some of you are all up in the world of blogs and know the drill while some of you maybe not so much.
Wikipedia definition: A blog (a blend of the term web log) is a personal journal published on the World Wide Web consisting of discrete entries (“posts”) typically displayed in reverse chronological order so the most recent post appears first. Blogs are usually the work of a single individual, occasionally of a small group, and often are themed on a single subject. Blog can also be used as a verb, meaning to maintain or add content to a blog.
So now that we are clear on the definition {anyone else think it’s funny that the definition says the World Wide Web…ha} How do we keep up with all of these blogs you might ask?! Well you can usually “subscribe” to blogs and by doing that you receive an email every time a new post is updated. {which you have already done for Her Split Ends i’m sure} There is also a handy little feature of your google account called google reader that keeps up with all of the blogs you follow and lets you know when there are new things to peruse.
Let’s talk about some of our my favorite blog categories.
One of my favorite types of blogs are the home design and inspiration blogs. Its no secret that I have a love of design and also a bit of a DIY side to me…and the blogging world is the perfect place to feed that love. My number one favorite blog right now for all things home and lovely is Young House Love. {stay tuned for their first book to be on shelves this fall!!} John & Sherry take you thru all of the DIY projects they tackle in their own house as well as bring you tons of inspiration ideas and resources for finding all of those must haves for the place you call home {they also have a precious little munchkin & puppy that pop in every now and then!}! Other great home & DIY blogs to take a look-see at {just to name a few}:
- The Inspired Room {ideas for loving the home you have}
- Little Green Notebook {inspiration from an Interior Designer}
- High Street Market {by an Interior Designer & home interiors shop owner}
- Better After {Before & After shots from reupholstering to room design}
- Life on the Balcony {garden & decor ideas for those w/ small outdoor space}
- Style Me Pretty {“the Ultimate wedding blog”}
- Vue Photography {my personal FAVORITE photographer of all time!!}
- Hostess with the Mostess {Inspiration for Life’s Celebrations}
- Green Wedding Shoes {All things wedding}
- The Perfect Palette {exploring color inspiration for your wedding}
There are the personal & family blogs that our friends and family start to chronicle the goings on in their lives. One of my personal favs is a blog my friend Keightley started to keep us all up with her cute family. The great thing about My Life Playing House is even though they live in another state…I feel like I’m growing up right along side her precious little ones! And they definitely bring out lots of smiles and laughter! Another great thing a personal blog can do is reach out to people when you need it most…like The Dunns in Athens as it chronicles the long process of adopting a little one from another country. Reading all of the updates as they go thru this process really allowed all of the readers to understand how difficult but rewarding their journey has been…and now they have an adorable little man safe and sound at home with them!
A review of the blogging world would not be complete without a look at all of the food and recipe related blogs out there {Warning…these may make your tummy growl and give you a sudden craving for…well food!!} There are all sorts of different categories within this category from health and specific diet type blogs to just good old fashion recipe sharing. A great one to check out for the more general just awesome recipe and technique type blog is The Pioneer Woman Cooks. This woman sure can cook…and each post is sure to inspire you to tie on that apron and start cooking away! For more food goodies check out:
- Smitten Kitchen {fearless cooking from a tiny kitchen in NYC}
- Good Life Eats {finding the good in the kitchen}
- All Things Delicious {doesn’t the name just say it all}
- The Curvy Carrot {healthy & indulgent meals dangling in front of you}
- The Girl Who Ate Everything {the blog of a self proclaimed foodaholic}

Get out! We have a lot of the same reader selections for food and wedding stuff. I also enjoy The Day Book (mostly fashion {LOVE Sidney’s style}, with lots of cute baby pics), Kendi Everyday (another fashion one – she wears everything from Payless and Target, to Anthro and designer creations and provides links to her fashion finds!) and Welcome to Heardmont (a blog journey of two DIYers remodeling their 1980s ranch home). Enjoy!
I second Little Green Notebook and Smitten Kitchen! Also, Design*Sponge, Thrify Decor Chick, Shoestring Sophistication, Miss Mustard Seed, and when I actually have nails long enough to paint, All Lacquered Up.
And though they are more websites than blogs, I want to mention Lonny – an online magazine with a blog (lonnymag.com/home) and Tip Junkie (tipjunkie.com/).
Thanks for the suggestions! Adding them to my reader!
